Have you recently got new glasses? Or perhaps you’re expecting to get new frames at your next eye appointment. Getting new glasses can be a bit of an adjustment, especially if you’re quite used to your previous pair (or new to wearing glasses all together!). Below are some of our top tips to settle into your new glasses.
When you first receive your glasses, it’s a good idea to get used to them by wearing them at home doing simple tasks in comfortable and familiar surroundings. That might include watching the television, spending time with your family, reading, and so on. This is a great way to get used to the feel of your frames in an environment with minimal external stimulus that might make you feel uncomfortable.
Another handy tip is to avoid wearing your old frames once you receive your new ones. This may create a dependency on your old frames, and to be honest, if you have new glasses then there’s a reason you shouldn’t be wearing your old ones! Try to keep the old glasses tucked away and make your newest pair your go-to.
If things feel a bit strange in your new glasses, make comfortable adjustments to get familiar with them. You might find that you need to move your head or neck slightly more to get acquainted with the range of vision.
If at any point your new glasses feel uncomfortable or like something isn’t right, don’t force yourself to wear them. Contact your optometrist or glasses provider as soon as possible and get them to double check your glasses.
For the most part, you will learn to use and love your new glasses, feeling entirely comfortable with having them on!
