How To Take Care Of Your Glasses

Updated: Feb 11, 2022

Picture this: you have just received your brand-new glasses after an incredible (wink wink!) Zephyr Medical at-home eye exam. Getting these new glasses feels a bit like bringing your newborn baby home for the first time – you’re beyond relieved they are here safe and sound, and you can’t stop looking at them! But you’re daunted too. You ask yourself, “How do I keep these glasses looking as shiny and new as they do today for the rest of their life?”

That’s where this blog comes in handy! We’ve compiled our best tips and tricks so that you can keep your glasses looking and feeling new for (possibly) years to come*.

Caring for your Glasses

Cleaning

When it comes to cleaning your glasses, all you need is some warm soapy water (a drop of dishwashing detergent is fine), and a clean & dry cloth. Simply run the frames under the water and massage the dish soap into the lenses and the rest of the glasses with your fingertips. Make sure all the suds are rinsed off before drying with the cloth. We like to do this once a week, but there’s no right or wrong amount of washing, so do as you feel necessary.

Storing and Transporting

Anytime your glasses are not on your face, they should be in a hard-shell case. A case is an important investment and essential in keeping your glasses safe and sound. Instead of making a case just another thing to remember to carry, buy a few and keep them in common spots – the car, your bedside table, your handbag.

Wearing

When you’re putting your glasses on or taking them off, always use both hands. Similarly, try to avoid wearing them up on your head when they aren’t on your nose. This is all to do with maintaining the frame shape. Mishandling and incorrect wearing can permanently reshape the frame and affect the way you see through them when they are on your face.

A list of Don’t-Do’s:

- Don’t wipe lenses when they’re dry, and never use a tissue, paper towel, or napkin. Debris and rough surfaces can cause scratches, and there’s nothing worse than having a scratch mark in your eye-line!

- Don’t leave your glasses in a hot car

- Don’t leave your glasses somewhere where they are easily exposed to sprays, cosmetics, chemicals, or harsh substances (like the bathroom or kitchen sink).

Well, it’s as easy at that! Love your glasses the right way and they’ll love you right back. Many of these tips take little to no time at all and mean that you’ll get the absolute most out of your vision.

*We love that you care so much about taking care of your glasses, but we can’t stress enough how important it is to prioritise your eye health over the health of your frames! Make sure to get regular eye checks to ensure the strength of your glasses are suitable for your vision.
