Caring for your Eyes in Summer

Updated: Feb 11, 2022

Australian summer is right around the corner, which means plenty of sun, sand and surf for a many of us! We love summer as much as the next Aussie, however, it's a super harsh season for our eyes which means it's important to take necessary care of our vision. Here are our top tips to keep your eyes safe this summer:

Wear Sunglasses

...and not just any sunglasses! Make sure you wear UV Protection lenses to protect your eyes from the harsh sun rays. Keep them handy so that you don't forget to put them on when you'll need them most. We suggest keeping a pair in an easy access place, like your car for those hot summer beach days!

Wear a Hat

Just like sunglasses, hats provide a huge amount of shady relief for your eyes. Keep a broad brimmed hat close by in summer - your eyes (and skin) will love you for it!

Avoid Rubbing Your Eyes

There tends to be a lot more abrasive elements around our eyes in summer - sunscreen, sand, lotions, pool chlorine, the list goes on! You've probably seen or experience sore eyes at some point after a day at the beach or by the pool. It's important to keep your hands clean and avoid rubbing your eyes to protect them from any nasties. Rubbing your eyes will only cause them to become irritated and red.

Wear Goggles When Swimming

If you're going swimming, it's a great idea to wear goggles to protect your eyes. Whether you're in the ocean or a pool, avoid a potentially irritated and dry eye by taking care of them beneath goggles when you're beneath the surface!

Keep Children Summer Safe too!

These tips don't just apply for adults! It's important for kids to take similar precautions in summer for their eye care. There are plenty of great and comfortable options for kids' sunglasses and hats. Plus, by taking care of their wellbeing, they'll enjoy the summer even more.
